Public Weekend Workshops, learn something new.
The Weekend Workshops Program has been created to provide our local audience with a variety of educational art based, hands on workshops ran by the Museums Artists in Residence. The Workshops are geared to teach all levels of experience from the complete novice to the pro, because everyone needs a place to keep their creative juices flowing. Remember all ages and experience levels are always welcome to register for any of our weekend workshops. But hurry booking is based on first come first serve and there are only a few openings for each workshop.
SEPTEMBER 23, 9-5 ~BLACKSMITH WORKSHOP $125 ~ materials included
This workshop offers hands-on skill development in the ancient art of blacksmithing. Making virtually anything that was made out of iron or steel prior to the age of mass production is fair game to the blacksmith.
Participants are brought into the experience of the blacksmith shop by learning to light the forge and practice hammering techniques.
Then the students will focus on using those techniques to forge a steel leaf or hook. As you build your skills, you can undertake production of small forged objects which require a basic understanding of a number of different techniques. From then, move on to design more challenging projects that are appropriate to your developing skill level, your ambitions, and your desire to work at the forge. Possibilities include everything from hearthside tools to medieval armor or forged-steel sculptures as pure expression in metal.
